Mastopexy, or breast lift, elevates and reshapes the breasts. Over time, a woman’s breasts may lose their shape and firmness due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, or gravity. Breast lift is very often combined with breast augmentation and can correct breast emptiness and sagging. Additionally, it is possible to reduce the diameter of the areola (the brown skin area around the nipple) if it is particularly large, and to reposition the nipple to the desired height on the breast.
The surgery requires general anesthesia and usually lasts 2-3 hours. The incision is made around the areola and extends vertically towards the lower pole of the breast. Through these incisions, excess skin is removed, and the nipple along with the areola is lifted to a new, higher position in the center of the breast.
Intense physical activity involving the upper body should be limited for the first month after the procedure, and the use of a special surgical bra is often required throughout the day for several weeks.
