Polylactic acid (Sculptra) is a synthetic dermal bio-stimulator, which is injected into the face, stimulating the patient’s own collagen production. This non-toxic and biodegradable substance has been used in surgery as a surgical suture for over 40 years.
Polylactic acid works exceptionally well primarily in the lower half of the face, effectively filling laugh lines and deep nasolabial folds. Additionally, it provides excellent aesthetic results in the cheek area by restoring lost volume. This material differs from hyaluronic acid because its action is not immediate. By activating collagen production from the patient’s body, results appear gradually over a few months.
