Otoplasty is performed on prominentears and aims to bring them back closer to the head, or on large ears to reduce their size. The procedure can be performed on adults as well as children, although in the case of children, we prefer to wait until the age of 5 or 6 years for the ears’ development to be complete. During the surgery, we operate on the ear cartilage, which gives the ear its structure, in order to correct the deformity.

The procedure is performed under sedation or general anesthesia and lasts approximately 1-2 hours. The incision is placed behind the ear and is not visible after the wound has healed. After the surgery, a bandage is placed around the head to protect the ears. The bandage is removed post-operatively at the clinic, and the patient is asked to use a head band (similar to what tennis players wear) for several weeks to maintain the new position of the ears and prevent any injury, especially during sleep.
