When diet and exercise are unable to sculpt the buttocks, a buttock lift or augmentation can offer a solution.

Buttock augmentation is achieved in two ways. The first involves fat transfer, using the patient’s own fat (known as a Brazilian Butt Lift), and the second requires the use of silicone implants, in cases where the patient’s fat is insufficient.

Fat transfer is currently the preferred technique among plastic surgeons. This is because fat can beautifully and naturally reshape the buttock area, without creating scars and without disrupting the normal anatomy of the region. The procedure does not require an overnight hospital stay, and postoperative recovery is significantly faster than with any other technique. After surgery, the patient must wear a special compression garment for one month and avoid all physical exercise during the same period. In some cases, the fat transfer procedure may need to be repeated to achieve further volume increase in the buttocks.

Silicone implants are no longer used very frequently due to their high complication rate. They are typically placed under the gluteal muscle or under its fascia. Their use is limited to bodybuilders and patients with minimal or no fat reserves.

A buttock lift, aimed at reshaping the buttocks, is a surgical procedure for patients with significant weight loss, who have sagging and loose skin that needs to be removed. The surgery requires general anesthesia, and the patient remains in the hospital for one night post-operatively.

The incision is large but carefully planned so that it can be covered even by the most minimal underwear. Often, excess tissue, instead of being removed, is anchored within the buttocks, simultaneously providing both a lift and augmentation. This achieves a total rejuvenation of the area.
